We have been flooded by appalling commentary since the fighting in Georgia began and it has got worse since it ended. Things have been intensely emotive and a lot of terms like 'new 19th century' or 'New Cold War' have been thrown around without people exactly knowing what they mean. From my perspective in Tbilisi the three most relevant pieces of commentary have been by Walter Lacquer, Ivan Kratsev, Paul Berman and Tim Judah. Please read them and tell me what you think. Also link me either on my blog or facebook-notes to which pieces you have found the most relevant.

Love your coverage and can only agree with you regarding references to Cold War, Prague in '68 etc.; an example of Rice and Bush seriously pushing the poor hand they have. Would love to hear more about the nationalist sentiment that you identify as being crucial, however. How does Georgian identity compare to that of the Ossetians? How does Ossetian ethnic character coexist alongside Russian nationalism? Keep writing
